Crisis and Emergency Management: Theory and Praxis; CEM-TP

Academic Milestones

The CEMTP Journey in Advancing Crisisonomy and Disastronomy, 2005–2026

More Than Two Decades of Scholarship, Collaboration, and Academic Leadership

Since its establishment in 2005, Crisis and Emergency Management: Theory and Praxis (CEMTP) has been committed to advancing scholarship, education, and practice in the fields of crisis and disaster management.

Over more than two decades, CEMTP has organized, co-hosted, and supported a wide range of academic conferences, international symposia, seminars, forums, and workshops in collaboration with universities, research institutes, academic associations, government agencies, international organizations, professional communities, and civil society institutions in Korea and abroad.

CEMTP’s academic journey began on July 22, 2005, with its first academic conference on “Emerging Critical Infrastructure Disasters and Crisis Management Systems in an IT-Based Society.” Since then, its scholarly agenda has steadily broadened to encompass national crisis management, natural and human-induced disasters, disaster relief and victim support, critical infrastructure protection, public safety, social disasters, climate change and the climate crisis, disaster resilience, inclusive disaster risk reduction, Disaster Memory Studies, research ethics, and emerging approaches to crisis and disaster governance.

At the same time, CEMTP has expanded its academic partnerships beyond Korea, establishing sustained networks with scholars and institutions across Asia, North America, Europe, and other regions of the world. These collaborative endeavors have contributed to the development of major international academic platforms, including the International Conference on Crisis and Emergency Management (ICCEM), Asian Conference on Crisisonomy, Global Crisisonomy Symposium and Forum, Global Disastronomy Workshop, and various Korea–China and Korea–Japan academic exchanges.

The milestones presented below document this continuing journey. They represent not simply a record of academic events, but the gradual development of an intellectual community dedicated to advancing Crisisonomy and Disastronomy, strengthening international scholarly cooperation, nurturing future generations of researchers, and contributing to safer, more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient societies.
