Mission

Crisis and Emergency Management: Theory and Praxis (CEMTP) is committed to advancing the academic development and systematization of Crisisonomy and Disastronomy as global disciplines. Building on more than two decades of scholarship since its founding in 2005, CEMTP will continue to serve as a central hub within the international network of crisis and emergency management research — connecting scholars, institutions, and practitioners across disciplines and borders to strengthen collective knowledge, deepen international collaboration, and contribute to safer, more inclusive, and more resilient societies.

Strategic Activities

In pursuit of this mission, CEMTP will focus its efforts on the following three strategic pillars.

01 Serving as a Global Hub for the Advancement and Systematization of Crisisonomy and Disastronomy

CEMTP will continue to fulfill its long-standing role as a central node within the global network dedicated to the academic development and systematization of Crisisonomy. Through the sustained publication of its academic journals, the convening of international conferences and symposia, and the coordination of collaborative research among affiliated institutions, CEMTP will maintain and strengthen the institutional infrastructure that connects scholars and practitioners of crisis and emergency management worldwide.

02 Sustaining the Global Crisisonomy Symposium and the Global Disastronomy Workshop with the Global Crisisonomy Institute (GCI)

In partnership with the Global Crisisonomy Institute (GCI), CEMTP will continue to advance the Global Crisisonomy Symposium and the Global Disastronomy Workshop as flagship international platforms for scholarly exchange. These recurring programs will remain central venues through which researchers from Asia, North America, Europe, and beyond convene to examine emerging challenges in crisis and disaster management, climate resilience, and critical infrastructure protection, and to disseminate the latest advances in Crisisonomy and Disastronomy to the wider academic community.

03 Strengthening Partnerships with the International Society for Crisis and Emergency Management (ISCEM) and the Asian Association for Crisisonomy (AAC)

CEMTP will further strengthen its collaborative networks with the International Society for Crisis and Emergency Management (ISCEM) and the Asian Association for Crisisonomy (AAC), two of its principal partner institutions. Through this enhanced cooperation, CEMTP will support and help advance the academic journals affiliated with each partner institution — the International Review of Crisis and Emergency Management (IRCEM), the Asian Crisisonomy Review (ACR), and the Global Crisisonomy Review (GCR) — by promoting cross-institutional exchange, encouraging joint special issues and co-authored research, and expanding the international visibility and scholarly standing of these journals within the broader field of crisis and emergency management.

Joint editorial and peer-review cooperation across CEMTP’s Crisisonomy, JSCM, and Disastronomy and the partner journals IRCEM, ACR, and GCR

Co-organized special issues and thematic symposia addressing shared research priorities

Expanded opportunities for cross-institutional authorship, citation, and early-career researcher exchange

Crisisonomy

Crisisonomy is the academic discipline devoted to the systematic, interdisciplinary study of crisis and emergency management. It integrates theory and practice across the full spectrum of crises confronting contemporary society — including conventional security crises, national living-safety crises, critical infrastructure crises, social and organizational crises, and emerging and transnational threats — with the aim of building the knowledge, institutions, and practical capacities required to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from crises, and thereby to protect human life, dignity, and the sustainability of communities.

Disastronomy

Disastronomy is the academic discipline concerned with the systematic study of disasters — their causes, dynamics, and consequences — and with the development of the policies, institutions, and practices needed to reduce disaster risk and strengthen resilience. Encompassing both natural and human-induced disasters, Disastronomy examines disaster management across the full cycle of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, with particular attention to the protection of critical infrastructure, vulnerable populations, and the long-term resilience of communities and societies in an era of climate crisis and complex global risk.
